# How BINYAN Studios used Chaos Arena to bring Faena Residences Miami to life before it was built

**Summary**

- BINYAN Studios is a global [architectural visualization](https://blog.chaos.com/what-is-archviz-everything-you-should-know?hsLang=en) and creative production studio with over 10 years of experience producing imagery, film, and immersive content for luxury property and design brands.
- For its Faena Residences Miami project, BINYAN needed to shoot a brand film that involved live actors inside interiors that didn't exist yet, and the spaces had to match Faena's bespoke design work.
- BINYAN brought its existing Corona scenes directly into Chaos Arena, preserving lighting and material work while gaining real-time control on set.
- The result was a hero brand film, sales edit, and social content produced in a single shoot, with the client reviewing and approving creative decisions live on set.

## **Elevating the world's most iconic projects**

[BINYAN](https://www.binyanstudios.com) is an integrated content agency creating a sense of place and belonging for the world's most iconic landmarks. With over a decade in the industry, it has partnered with developers, architects, and luxury brands worldwide on high-end residential, hospitality, commercial, and mixed-use projects.

Chaos tools have been part of BINYAN's pipeline since the studio's earliest days. [V-Ray](https://www.chaos.com/vray) was there from the start, and the team has since added [Corona](https://www.chaos.com/corona),<https://www.chaos.com/vantage>[Vantage](https://www.chaos.com/vantage), and, most recently, [Chaos Arena](https://www.chaos.com/arena) for virtual production.

## **Selling a bespoke interior that doesn't exist yet**

The project was a brand film for Faena Residences Miami, a luxury residential development in Miami. Because of its highly bespoke interiors, shooting in a generic staged space was not an option, as any film built around a stand-in location would have undersold the actual design work already produced for the project. The environments in the film needed to feel specific to Faena and match the design work already created for the project, down to material and lighting detail.

The goal was to create a premium, immersive film that captured the lifestyle, community, and atmosphere of Faena Residences Miami. It had to show people inhabiting a space that wasn't yet built, with a sense of scale and human connection still imagery alone can't deliver. [Virtual production](https://blog.chaos.com/the-stage-is-your-world-virtual-production-technology-explained?hsLang=en) was the logical route to get there.

Behind the scenes

BINYAN started using [virtual production](https://www.chaos.com/virtual-production) in 2025, initially using pre-rendered scenes and sequences for earlier projects. While it comes with its own demands, such as strong pre-production and camera moves, scenes, and storyboards locked in before the shoot, plus practical work on lighting, floor space, and set dressing, it allowed the team to combine its CG environments with live action.

John Human, Creative Director, explains, “The technology is only one part of it. The bigger challenge is making the whole scene feel natural once actors, lighting, camera, and the virtual environment come together.”

The Faena Residences Miami project was the first time BINYAN used Chaos Arena in a production environment, working alongside virtual production partner [Silvertown Studios](https://www.silvertownstudios.co.uk/).

## **Bringing existing scenes into real time**

BINYAN's main motivation for adopting Chaos Arena was workflow continuity. The studio already had detailed 3ds Max and Corona scenes for Faena, and rebuilding them in a separate real-time platform would have meant re-doing lighting, materials, and layout work that had already been signed off. As Ryan Lam, Creative Director, put it, this had "a huge advantage. It meant we could preserve much of the [lighting](https://blog.chaos.com/corona-lightmix-guide?hsLang=en) and material work, make changes quickly, and stay within a familiar ecosystem.”

“It was mostly taking our existing 3D scenes and making sure everything performed well in real-time.” As this was a new workflow for BINYAN and Silvertown Studios, there was a learning curve; however, the process was much smoother than rebuilding the scenes in a completely separate real-time platform. Luis E Inciarte, Creative Director, said, "The Chaos team were very hands-on throughout. They helped during pre-production and on the shoot, solving issues quickly and helping us keep momentum on set.”

Behind the scenes

The shift to real-time path tracing changed what was possible during the shoot, not just before it. The BINYAN team could move between camera setups quickly, adjust scenes, exposure, mood, and framing live, and capture more coverage than the team had planned for going in, material that ultimately fed a hero brand film, a sales edit, and social content from a single shoot. Kels McInnis, Executive Producer, sums up the difference plainly, “Arena gave us more flexibility than a pre-rendered virtual production workflow."

That flexibility extended to the client relationship. The Faena client was present on set, which meant they could discuss ideas, review what was happening, and make decisions in real time. This made the process feel seamless and collaborative.

The remaining technical challenge wasn't the [rendering](https://blog.chaos.com/what-is-rendering-architecture-design-students?hsLang=en) itself; it was integration: making the physical set, lighting, camera, and actors read as one continuous world with the virtual environment behind them. Described as both the most challenging and most rewarding part of the process, it required close coordination between the production and visualization teams throughout the shoot.

## **A faster shoot, more deliverables, one familiar pipeline**

The biggest measurable gain was in time and workflow complexity. Because Arena connected directly to the studio's existing Chaos pipeline, BINYAN didn't need to staff up a separate team to translate scenes into another game engine; its own artists could make changes and push updates during the shoot itself.

That efficiency also expanded what the shoot produced: within the time available, the team captured enough material for a full brand film for Faena Residences Miami, along with additional sales and social content. The film combines live action, virtual production, and BINYAN's CG environments to communicate the lifestyle and atmosphere of the development before it’s built.

Behind the scenes

BINYAN now considers Arena as a natural extension of its pipeline, especially for projects where the studio already holds detailed CG environments and wants to bring them into a live-action setting.

The biggest benefit is familiarity. Because BINYAN's artists already work in V-Ray, Corona, and Vantage, moving into Arena didn't require the team to learn a new ecosystem; it extended the one they already knew. As Ryan Lam, Creative Director, puts it, Chaos Arena "made virtual production feel less like a technical workaround and more like a creative tool."
