# How to Find the Right 3D Asset Faster in Enscape

How do you get the right 3D asset into your scene when you don’t even know what it’s called, or when it doesn’t exist in your library?

We’ve all been there. Finding the right asset for an [Enscape](https://www.chaos.com/enscape) scene can sometimes take longer than building the layout itself. You search different libraries, try different keywords, or download a random third-party model that needs cleanup or adjustments before you can use it. And sometimes the exact piece you need simply doesn’t exist.

In this article, I’ll show you a faster workflow using image-based search in [Chaos Cosmos](https://www.chaos.com/cosmos) to find what already exists, generate what doesn’t, and place both directly into your Enscape project.

Key takeaways:

- Image-based search in Chaos Cosmos finds visually similar assets from a reference photo, no keywords needed.
- It works for furniture and vegetation alike, making it quick to populate scenes from mood boards or client references.
- When an asset doesn’t exist, you can generate a new 3D model from a single reference image.
- Found and generated assets go straight into your Enscape scene, so you spend less time managing assets and more time designing.

<iframe width="256" height="145" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/VUSNa9CN89o?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen title="Find the Right 3D Asset Faster in Enscape" style="position: absolute; top: 0px; left: 0px; width: 100%; height: 100%; border-width: medium; border-style: none; border-color: currentcolor; border-image: none;"></iframe>

## **Find an asset with Image-Based Search**

I already have the main scene prepared. To finish it off, I just need a few specific entourage pieces to complete the layout and bring more life.

Let’s start with something simple to fill the environment: some benches. If you know what the object should look like and have a reference for it, but you’re not quite sure what keywords to type, this is where image-based search can help. I have a reference photo saved, so I’ll just use that image instead of trying to describe the specific bench.

You’ll see how quickly Cosmos brings up visually similar matches first. This is especially useful when you’re working from a mood board, a client reference, or an inspiration image.

From here, everything should feel pretty familiar. Just pop your asset into the scene, tweak the position, rotation, and scale, and keep working. The difference is that I got to the right asset faster without searching excessively for it.

It’s also super handy for vegetation. If I don’t know the exact plant and don’t want to spend time searching, I can use a simple photo to quickly find it in the library and even get several options for the same type of plant. I can repeat the process with as many reference images as I need, making it easy to populate the scene without wasting time.

## **Generate a new 3D asset**

Now onto another classic case. Sometimes you just can’t find the exact object. Maybe it’s a custom piece, a specific product the client requested, or something too specific to find in any library. At that point, your options are to keep searching, spend a lot of time modeling the object yourself, or download something from another source.

External models can also be a bit tricky. They may be unnecessarily high poly, way too heavy for a real-time scene, or just need some cleanup and tweaks before you can use them.

If the search doesn’t give us what we need, generating a brand-new 3D model on the spot makes more sense. In this case, I want a specific sculpture for the green space on the right side of the benches. Since there isn’t a close match in the library, and modeling it from scratch takes way too long, let’s generate it instead.

You get a great result with a clear reference photo where the object is easy to make out and free of clutter. I’ll add the image reference and choose our 3D generation model.

If I’m after a quick result, I’ll use Trellis, but for higher quality, I’ll go with HY 3D. Let’s go ahead and generate it so we can preview the mesh and check the silhouette. And honestly, it turned out great.

The process is very simple. I started with a visual reference, and now I have a functional 3D asset ready to go, without manual modeling or hunting for external files. Having that flexibility directly in my workflow saves time.

## **Final result: found vs. generated**

Now we just place the generated sculpture next to the benches, fine-tune the scale and position, and that’s pretty much it. So the decision is really straightforward. If you know what the object should look like and you have a reference for it, start with image-based search. If you find a suitable match, place it and keep designing.

## **Search when it’s faster, generate when it isn’t**

If the library doesn’t have it, don’t waste time searching or modeling. Switch over and generate it instead. Both paths get you to the exact same goal: getting the right asset into your scene without breaking your creative flow. At the end of the day, it’s about keeping your focus on designing, not managing assets.

Let’s step back and take a look at the final scene. We found assets in seconds with image-based search and generated another one on the fly because it didn’t exist, and everything blends together so naturally right inside the same Enscape scene.

Next time you’re looking for the right asset, don’t just keep searching. Find it or generate it, and get back to designing. Ready to find the right asset faster?
