# Veras vs. Standalone GPT-6 Astra and Claude Opus 5.5: A comparison

Veras 5.2 and later run the same models you can use on their own in ChatGPT and Claude: OpenAI's<https://openai.com/es-419/index/gpt-6-astra/>GPT-6 Astra and Anthropic's Claude Opus 5.5. So why use Veras? The integration. Both power the Veras modeling Agent and the LLM node in Veras NODES. Around them, Veras adds what a chat window can't: your host model, typed geometry, native bake into Revit, Rhino and SketchUp, and a production pipeline from render to built asset.

**Key takeaways:**

- **Same models, different job:** On their own, Astra and Opus are general assistants. In Veras, they work as a modeling agent with architectural tools.
- **Veras turns images into native, editable host geometry:** That includes Revit walls and families, Rhino NURBS Breps, and SketchUp groups, written in with one BAKE action.
- **Veras is a single-stop shop:** Agent modeling, 3D asset generation, Cosmos assets and materials, node workflows, renderings, and video all live in one plugin, and every result is saved.

## **1. Same model, different context**

Standalone Astra or Opus gives you a model in a chat window. Veras gives you the same models wired into a production environment inside your design app.

- **Lives in your design app.** [Veras runs inside Enscape](https://blog.chaos.com/ai-architectural-visualization-workflow-enscape-veras?hsLang=en), [Revit, SketchUp](https://blog.chaos.com/ai-rendering-in-revit-sketchup?hsLang=en), Rhino, Vectorworks, Archicad, and the web app, with agent modeling, 3D assets and native bake in Revit, Rhino, and SketchUp. It sits alongside the rendering and image tools your team already uses, with nothing new to install or learn.
- **Purpose-built tools, not code.** In Veras, the model calls architectural modeling tools directly. Standalone, you need the model to write scripts, then you run and debug them in your host.
- **Sees what it builds.** The Veras Agent models in steps, checks the result against your source images, and corrects mismatches on its own. Standalone, you are the feedback loop: run, screenshot, paste back, repeat.
- **Flags its guesses.** Elements the Agent assumed get a "?" marker, and hovering shows the assumption. A chat transcript doesn't give you that in the model.
- **Everything is saved.** Each Agent run is saved as a Scene in the Gallery with its renderings and chat session. You can restore it, share it, or replay it turn by turn for a presentation at no credit cost.
- **Model choice.** Veras lets you switch the Agent between [GPT-6 Astra (default) and Claude Opus 5.5](https://blog.chaos.com/veras-adds-gpt-6-astra-and-claude-opus-5.5?hsLang=en), with an effort setting that trades speed for thoroughness.

## **2. Agentic modeling: from images to native geometry**

<iframe width="256" height="145" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/sZUv_-ThfEk?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen title="Turn References into 3D" style="position: absolute; top: 0px; left: 0px; width: 100%; height: 100%; border-width: medium; border-style: none; border-color: currentcolor; border-image: none;"></iframe>

This is where the integration matters most. Introduced in<https://forum.evolvelab.io/t/veras-5-2-agentic-modeling-with-astra-opus/11479/3>[Veras 5.2](https://forum.evolvelab.io/t/veras-5-2-agentic-modeling-with-astra-opus/11479/3), Agent mode (Beta) opens the MODEL tab. You give it renderings, photos, or sketches plus a description, and Astra or Opus builds the model.

**Up to 12 source views.** Mix renderings, uploads, the live host view, and 3D viewer snapshots. Each becomes a numbered view the Agent checks its work against.

**An architectural vocabulary.** The Agent builds walls, floors, roofs, openings, doors, windows, cameras, and furniture. It also makes curved walls, tilted and swept solids, profiles and section roofs. Walls mitre at corners, trim at T-junctions, and butt against walls of different heights. As of 5.2.2, it adds lofts, tapered and twisted extrusions, booleans, polar repeat, mirror, fillet, shell and freeform surfaces.

**Native bake.** One BAKE action writes the model into your host:

- **Revit:** Native walls, floors and roofs, door and window families, cameras as perspective 3D views, and [Cosmos](https://www.chaos.com/cosmos) materials as project materials.
- **Rhino:** NURBS Breps with mitred corners, and cameras as Named Views.
- **SketchUp:** Editable groups with textured materials, and cameras as Scenes.

<iframe width="256" height="145" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/d0Lt1CF2IdU?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen title="Bake into Your Workflow" style="position: absolute; top: 0px; left: 0px; width: 100%; height: 100%; border-width: medium; border-style: none; border-color: currentcolor; border-image: none;"></iframe>

"Bake automatically" streams elements into the host as they're built and removes them if the Agent deletes them. Host edits are preserved unless you choose to replace an object.

**Drawings come with it.** Every level gets a floor plan, cut 4 ft above the level, with door swings. The 3D viewer adds parallel projection and a W/A/S/D walk-through.

With standalone Astra or Opus, you can ask either one to write a RhinoCommon or Revit API script. You then run it, debug it, check the result by eye and feed errors back by hand. You don't get the visual self-check, typed elements, plan views or a one-click native bake.

## **3. 3D asset generation, proxy bake and Place from Gallery**

[Veras 5.0](https://blog.chaos.com/veras-5.0?hsLang=en) , [5.1](https://forum.evolvelab.io/t/veras-5-1-proxy-bake-place-from-gallery/11459)and[5.2](https://forum.evolvelab.io/t/veras-5-2-agentic-modeling-with-astra-opus/11479) turn renderings into placed 3D assets, a job a language model can't do alone.

- **Detect Objects** finds furniture, fixtures, planting and vehicles in a rendering.
- **Three asset sources:** generate a mesh (Microsoft TRELLIS 2.0 with full PBR materials, TRELLIS 1.0 or Tencent HY 3D 3.1), match a production-ready Chaos Cosmos asset at real-world size, or place a model you already made from your Gallery at no credit cost.
- **Placed in context.** Assets land where they appeared, at the right size and facing, on the surface under the cursor.
- **Proxy Bake.** A lightweight placeholder goes into Revit, Rhino or SketchUp, and for [Cosmos assets](https://blog.chaos.com/most-used-cosmos-assets?hsLang=en), Enscape renders the full asset at render time. Veras relinks proxies after a refresh.
- **Material Gen.** Pick surfaces, then search Cosmos or generate materials with Chaos Cloud Mat-gen. BAKE writes the maps into named host materials in one undo step.

**Real items, not invented ones.** [Veras](https://blog.chaos.com/what-is-veras?hsLang=en) places real, production-ready items from the Cosmos library. Standalone, the AI has to invent objects from scratch or pull in unfamiliar libraries. Cosmos is faster and gives you proper, editable objects.

On their own, Astra and Opus have no mesh generator, no Cosmos library and no link to Enscape. You'd be chaining several external tools and importing by hand.

## **4. NODES: repeatable workflows with Astra or Opus inside**

[Veras 5.3 adds NODES (beta),](https://blog.chaos.com/veras-5.3?hsLang=en) a node canvas that wires image, video, analysis, geometry and bake steps into one graph. The LLM node runs GPT-6 Astra or Claude Opus 5.5 beside the generators Veras already uses.

- **Node families:** Inputs, Values, Generators, Analysis (Describe Image, Depth Map, Canny Edges, Detect Objects, LLM), Combiners, Geometry (Building, Box, Extrude, Boolean, Array, Transform, Capture View) and Outputs (Bake to Revit, Rhino or SketchUp).
- **Nodes Agent:** It can describe and build the graph for you, set up controls and run it. It asks before any run over 25 credits.
- **Controls turn a graph into an app:** Pin settings as controls so teammates can run a workflow without touching the wiring.
- **Cost and caching:** RUN GRAPH shows cost before it runs, up to 4 cloud jobs run at once, and unchanged nodes reuse cached results.
- **A shared library:** Workflows auto-save to the cloud with version history, sharing and import.

In a chat window, a multi-step pipeline lives in your prompt history. In NODES, it's a versioned, shareable graph your whole team can rerun.

## **5. A controlled harness instead of open-ended scripts**

Veras runs Astra and Opus inside a harness: the model calls a fixed set of tested modeling and bake tools rather than writing code that runs in your design software.

- **No AI-generated code in your host.** In a scripting workflow, the model writes RhinoCommon, Revit API or Grasshopper code that runs with full access to your files. In Veras, the model can only call tools such as wall, roof, opening and bake.
- **A bounded action space.** A bad prompt or a hallucination can only add, change or remove the Agent's own elements. Edits you make in the host are preserved. Results are also more predictable from session to session.
- **Nothing to audit.** Teams don't need to review AI-written scripts before running them, a real overhead in any scripted setup done responsibly. Running raw, AI-generated code inside a design app is a real security risk.

## **6. No setup, nothing to maintain**

Veras is ready to use on day one. When a better AI model comes out, [Chaos adds it for you](https://blog.chaos.com/chaos-ai-powered-tools?hsLang=en).

- **Ready on day one.** Install the plugin and the Agent, NODES and asset tools are available in your host. There’s no API wiring, script library or connector to build.
- **New models arrive automatically.** In September 2026 alone, Veras added GPT-6 Astra, Claude Opus 5.5, GPT Image 2.5, Grok Imagine 2 and Microsoft TRELLIS 2.0, each available without changing your setup.
- **Standalone, you own the plumbing.** A ChatGPT or Claude + Rhino setup means maintaining the connection, prompts and scripts yourself, and updating them when models or APIs change.

## **Veras vs. standalone Astra and Opus: feature comparison**

| **Feature** | **Veras (with Astra or Opus)** | **Standalone Astra (ChatGPT) or Opus (Claude)** |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Runs inside your design app | Yes: Revit, Rhino, SketchUp, Enscape, Vectorworks, Archicad, web; Agent and native bake in Revit, Rhino, SketchUp | No, browser or desktop chat |
| Model choice | GPT-6 Astra or Claude Opus 5.5, with effort setting | One provider's models per app |
| Images to 3D model | Agent, up to 12 source views | Script generation you run yourself |
| Visual self-check against sources | Built-in | Manual screenshot loop |
| Typed architectural elements | Walls, floors, roofs, openings, doors, windows, cameras | Not available |
| Advanced forms | Curved walls, lofts, tapers and twists, booleans, fillet, shell, freeform surfaces | Whatever your script can do, debugged by you |
| Flagged assumptions in the model | "?" markers with hover detail | Not available |
| Native bake to Revit / Rhino / SketchUp | One click, or Bake automatically | Write and debug API scripts |
| Per-level floor plans | Automatic, 4 ft cut, door swings | Not available |
| 3D asset generation | TRELLIS 2.0, TRELLIS 1.0, HY 3D 3.1 | Not available |
| Chaos Cosmos assets and materials | Search, place, bake | Not available |
| Proxy bake for Enscape | Built-in for Cosmos assets | Not available |
| Material generation | Cosmos or Chaos Cloud Mat-gen | Low quality |
| Node-based workflows | NODES with LLM node and Nodes Agent | Not available |
| Saved sessions, scenes and replay | Gallery scenes, free replay | Chat history only |
| Rendering, upscaling, video in the same tool | Built-in | No rendering linked to your model's views |
| AI-generated code run in your host | None: harness of tested tools | Scripts you review and run yourself |
| Setup and model updates | Ready on day one; new models added by Chaos | You build and maintain the integration |
| Cost control | Per-session credit budget; NODES shows cost before a run; work is kept if the budget runs out | Plan or API usage limits; no per-task budget |
| Data use | Veras doesn’t train on your data | Depends on plan and settings |

## **Bottom line**

The models are the same. If your workflow is prompt → script → run it yourself, standalone Astra or Opus can help; both are capable coding and reasoning assistants.

If your workflow is turning sketches, photos and renderings into native, editable building models, Veras turns that into a controlled pipeline inside the tool you already use, with no AI-written code running in your files. You get self-checking geometry, flagged assumptions, plan views, Cosmos assets, proxy bake for Enscape and repeatable node workflows, all saved and shareable.
