Veras 5.3: Introducing NODES

Veras 5.3 adds NODES, a new tab where you build your own workflows by wiring nodes together. A workflow can generate and edit images and video, analyze them, build parametric 3D geometry, and bake the result into Revit, Rhino, or SketchUp. An agent can build a workflow for you, any setting can become a simple control, and every workflow saves itself to your library.

NODES - build your own workflows

NODES is a node canvas. Each node does one job, such as uploading an image, writing a prompt, generating an image, removing a background, or making a video, and wires carry each result on to the next node. Press RUN GRAPH, and Veras runs the whole chain.

The nodes:

  • Inputs: Image, Images, Video, 3D Model (.glb), Text
  • Values: Number, Toggle, Choice, Seed, Math
  • Generators: Image Generator, Video Generator, 3D Generator, Remove Background, Rotate Image, Post Process
  • Analysis: Describe Image, Depth Map, Canny Edges, Detect Objects, LLM
  • Combiners: Text Concat, Video Combine, GIF
  • Geometry: Building, Box, Extrude, Boolean, Array, Transform, 3D Preview, Capture View
  • Outputs: Save 3D Model, Bake to Revit, Bake to Rhino, Bake to SketchUp
  • Utilities: Reroute, Watch, Note

The generators use the same engines as the IMAGE, VIDEO, and MODEL tabs, including reference images, first and last frames, and video editing on the models that support them. A few nodes to try:

  • LLM answers a question about text, images, or a video using GPT-6 Astra or Claude Opus 5.5. For example, it can write a prompt from a reference photo. You pay for what the answer actually uses, and the node shows an estimate before you run.
  • Detect Objects finds the objects in an image that match your words. It outputs the annotated image, a crop of each object, and their labels.
  • Post Process grades an image with the Edit-mode sliders. It runs on your computer, is free, and updates as you drag.
  • GIF turns a video or a set of images into an animated GIF, and Video Combine joins clips into one video.

Adding nodes:

  • Drag a node in from the pane’s NODES list, or click it to add it at the center of the canvas
  • Right-click or double-click the canvas to open the Add menu, with search and your recent nodes
  • Drag a wire out into empty space. The menu lists only the nodes that accept what the wire carries, and wires the one you pick
  • Drag an image or video from the workspace strip onto the canvas to use it as an input

Running a workflow:

  • RUN GRAPH shows what the run will cost before you press it, and Veras asks you first before an expensive run. Each node shows its own cost as well.
  • Results show up as each node finishes. They land in the workspace one by one as soon as they are completed.
  • Up to 4 cloud jobs run at a time. The rest wait their turn and are marked Queued.
  • Unchanged nodes aren’t run again. Veras reuses their last result, so editing a prompt near the end of a chain only re-runs what it affects. A node whose inputs changed is marked Stale until it runs again. Run all in RUN GRAPH’s menu runs everything from scratch.
  • Fast, free nodes update live as you edit: values, Post Process, and the geometry nodes. You can turn this off with Auto-run fast nodes in RUN GRAPH’s menu.
  • Stop one node or the whole run, and re-run a single node with its ↻ button
  • If a node fails, a message at the bottom of the canvas names the node and the reason. Show takes you to the node, and Copy copies the full error.

Editing:

  • Undo and redo are on the toolbar, and also work with Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Y
  • Ctrl-click or Shift-click to select several nodes. Space collapses the selected nodes, and Ctrl+M turns them off.
  • Click a wire to add a Reroute dot and tidy a long wire, or right-click a wire to delete it
  • Watch shows whatever flows through it: text, a number, an image, a video, or a model. Note adds a note to the canvas, with Markdown formatting and four colors.

The Nodes Agent - describe it, it builds it

The pane’s AGENT tab works like the agent on the MODEL tab, but it builds workflows instead of models.

  • Describe what you want, for example, “render my sketch in three styles and make a short video of each”. The agent adds the nodes, wires them, sets them up, and puts the key settings in CONTROLS.
  • It can run the graph and look at the results. It asks you first before a run that costs 25 credits or more, or one that would go over the session’s budget.
  • Point it at nodes by selecting them. The message field shows a chip with your selection so the agent knows which nodes you mean. Click the chip’s ✕ to send without it
  • It keeps up with your changes. Anything you change on the canvas between messages is passed to the agent, so it works from the graph as it is now.
  • Each agent edit is one undo step
  • Sessions are saved with the workflow. To continue a conversation, open the ⋮ menu at the end of the pane’s tabs and choose Restore session…

The Nodes agent uses the same models and pricing as the agent on the MODEL tab. That includes the launch promotion while it runs.

CONTROLS and OUTPUT - turn a graph into a tool

CONTROLS collects the settings that matter in one place. You can change a prompt or a slider there without looking for it in the graph.

  • Pin any setting to CONTROLS with the ⊕ that appears when you hover over its row
  • Drag a node onto the CONTROLS pane and its settings land where you drop them. Drag the grip beside a control to reorder it.
  • Click ✎ on a control to rename it, group it, set its width, range and step, or hide it from the OUTPUT view
  • Follow edited node (in RUN GRAPH’s menu) moves the graph to show the node a control just changed

The OUTPUT view shows the workflow’s result full size. Switch between GRAPH and OUTPUT on the toolbar.

  • The result can be an image, a video, or a 3D view you can orbit in Shaded, Arctic Clay, or Wireframe
  • Show original compares the result with the image you started from, and you can download the result from the toolbar
  • Choose which node is the main output from that node’s menu. Show main output on the toolbar takes you to it.
  • With controls and OUTPUT, a workflow works like a simple app: change the controls and press RUN GRAPH. Open in Nodes on a rendering whose workflow has controls opens it straight on OUTPUT.

Any setting can take a wire:

  • Drag a wire onto any setting, and it uses the incoming value. The setting shows the value it receives.
  • Drag out from a setting’s socket into empty space to create a Number slider, Toggle, Choice, or Seed node that is already set up and wired in
  • Math computes a number from up to four inputs, for example a * 2 + 1
  • Alt-click a socket to remove its wire

Live 3D geometry

The geometry nodes build 3D models on your computer as you change their settings. They are live and free.

  • Building is parametric building. Its width, depth, height, and other dimensions are settings, so they can be sliders in CONTROLS. From scene… brings in a model from a scene in your Gallery that the MODEL tab’s agent built, and the Nodes agent can write Buildings too.
  • Box, Extrude, Boolean, Array, and Transform make simple solids, then combine, repeat, move, turn, and scale them
  • 3D Preview shows the geometry in a small 3D viewer inside the node. Double-click it to expand it. The view you orbit to becomes a camera you can wire into other nodes.
  • Capture View turns the geometry into an image, from the preview’s camera or a preset view. Wire it into the Image Generator to render massing studies while you move the sliders.
  • Save 3D Model saves the geometry to your Gallery as a GLB

Bake from NODES - Revit, Rhino and SketchUp

Inside your host, the Outputs nodes bake a 3D model straight into the open model.

  • Bake to Revit places the model as a family at the internal origin
  • Bake to Rhino places it as a block at the origin, either as full geometry or as a lightweight proxy
  • Bake to SketchUp places it at the origin, either as full geometry or as a proxy
  • Revit and Rhino: keep the model’s own size or scale it to a height you set. Running the node again replaces the previous bake instead of adding a copy.
  • One graph, from photo to model. Wire in a 3D Generator, a 3D rhinoModel input, or Save 3D Model to generate an asset from a photo and bake it.

NOTE: Each bake node is listed only inside its own host, so Bake to Revit appears only in Revit.

Workflow library

  • Workflows save automatically to the cloud as you work. There’s no Save button to remember.
  • The workflow pill at the top of the pane opens your library, with Recent and My Workflows, as a grid or a list
  • Save to My Workflows keeps a workflow, and Revert to saved takes you back to the saved version
  • Version history. Veras saves a version each time you run, when the agent finishes, and when you save, so you can go back to an earlier one.
  • Rename (or let Suggest a name name the workflow for you), Duplicate, Delete
  • Share a workflow, and use Import share to open one someone sent you
  • Uploads travel with the workflow. Images you upload are saved with it, so it opens the same way on any computer.
  • Renderings remember their workflow. Open in Nodes, in the Gallery’s expanded view, or on the workspace strip reopens the workflow that made the rendering

The workspace strip

  • In NODES, the strip shows everything your workflows made in one row: images, videos, and 3D models, with the newest at the end
  • Drag thumbnails to reorder them, or drag an image or video onto the canvas to use it as an input. Double-click a thumbnail to open it full size, and use ← / → to step through
  • Fold the strip away on any tab. Move the pointer near the strip’s top edge and click the small triangle that appears.

More improvements

  • Fewer “Session is not active” interruptions. A brief hiccup in the sign-in service no longer ends your Veras session, and Veras retries in the background. NODES reconnect your session on their own before it starts a node. The MODEL tab’s agent waits out a sign-in outage instead of stopping.
  • Very large images now save to the Gallery. Large results such as a 4K Post Process image are no longer refused for their size. If a save does fail, a message tells you why.
  • SketchUp: fixed “Bake chunk out of order” errors when baking after the Veras window had been opened a second time. Update the Veras SketchUp plugin to 5.3 for this fix.
