AI Material Generator for Enscape is here! Plus, over 7,000 new Cosmos assets

Summary:

  • The beta version of the Chaos AI Material Generator is now available in Enscape via Cosmos.
  • This feature lets you transform real-world surfaces into ready-to-use materials without manual editing involved.
  • This article covers how to generate and import a new material, as well as replace an existing material.
  • More than 7,000 new 3D assets have been added to Cosmos, including low-poly assets and high-poly assets.

The AI Material Generator was first introduced with V-Ray 7 for 3ds Max, update 2, earlier this year. Since then, it has been available in other V-Ray integrations, Corona, Vantage, and Envision. And now, it’s available in Enscape!

What is the Chaos AI Material Generator?

The AI Material Generator transforms any real-world surface photo into ready-to-use PBR material in Chaos Cosmos. There is no manual editing or complicated workflows involved. It’s ideal for secondary materials that don’t require art direction, as it allows you to quickly populate environments and interiors without compromising believability. This early beta focuses on speed and convenience, with more capabilities planned for future releases.

How to use AI-generated materials in Enscape

The AI Material Generator is located in the Enscape Material Editor, accessible via a large “Material Generator” button on the toolbar. Clicking this button launches the Cosmos browser, which navigates to the AI Material Generator.

Generating and importing a new material:

  1. Upload a texture to the AI Material Generator in the Cosmos browser. Here, you can make adjustments, such as roughness, normal mapping, and resolution.
  2. Select a pattern so the uploaded image tiles correctly when used as a material. Cosmos assists with this by allowing you to automatically select an area of the image for tiling.
  3. After making the adjustments, click the "Generate" button. Generation time can vary from a few seconds to a minute, depending on the chosen resolution.
  4. A preview of the generated material, including the albedo texture, bump map, and roughness, appears, and further adjustments can be made before restarting the generation if needed.
  5. Once you’re happy with the results, click the "Download" button.
  6. The system will ask you to name the material, which must be unique for the imported Enscape Material Editor. If a non-unique name is entered, a random number is added to make it unique.
  7. Clicking “Save” starts the download and imports the material into the Enscape Material Editor, where it appears and is automatically selected. The imported material is a regular Enscape material, converted from the V-Ray material on the fly, and can be edited like any other Enscape material.

Replacing an existing material:

When generating a material from the material generator button, new materials are always created, and existing ones are never replaced. Here’s how to replace an existing material.

  1. Right-click on the currently selected material in the Enscape Material Editor to open a context menu and select “Replace with a material.”
  2. This triggers the same material generation process.
  3. Currently, the Cosmos browser cannot be informed that a material is being replaced, so it asks for a name again, treating it as an entirely new material.
  4. When the download completes, the material is automatically replaced with the newly generated one, and the change is reflected in the viewport.

Over 7,000 new Cosmos assets are now available

Over 1,500 new low-poly assets have been added, which are accessible to Enscape users. These assets include 514 new Evermotion assets covering categories such as building parts, bathroom furniture, foods, decoration, and clothing, as well as 1,000 new Globe Plants assets focused on the flora of Australia and Oceania.

More than 5,700 new high-poly assets and new categories have been added to Cosmos. This update includes 1,110 new Evermotion assets—covering electronics, appliances, furniture, accessories, and new additions like agricultural and industrial items. Our partnership with Globe Plants adds another 4,649 assets featuring diverse flora from around the world. ArchDesign Collection users can access the high-poly assets and explore the new categories via Envision.
